In a meeting held on Tuesday evening, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia disclosed to the Majority caucus of Parliament that he intends to run for the NPP Presidential Primaries in November this year.
Although Dr. Bawumia is viewed by many as the frontrunner to succeed President Akufo-Addo in 2024, he faces stiff competition from Alan Kyeremanteng, a three-time runner who resigned from his post in January to focus on his Presidential bid.
Nine aspirants, including former Ministers and MPs, have already declared their interest to lead the party in the upcoming presidential election.
The nine aspirants include; former Trades and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, and Francis Addai Nimo.
The rest are former MP for Essikado-Ketan Joe Ghartey, former general secretary of the NPP Kwabena Agyapong, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.
he nomination period for the NPP presidential primaries will begin on 26 May and end on 24 June 2023.
The party has also announced that parliamentary primaries will be held in February 2024.
Nominations will be accepted between 20 December 2023 and 4 January 2024.
