A lawyer, Elorm Ama Ababio, popularly known as Ama Governor, who is among the 53 protesters remanded into custody, has written a powerful letter in support of the ongoing demonstrations that began today.
Following a peaceful protest that escalated into violence between September 21-23, demonstrators clashed with police, resulting in accusations of road blockages, dismantled barriers, traffic obstruction, and property damage at Accra’s 37 Roundabout.
Live report from ABC News GH indicates that as of 2:40 PM today, the ongoing protest was peaceful.
In her letter, Governor writes:
“Dear Comrades,

Ghana has never seen a day as great as this [3rd October 2024], where Ghana Youth, in spite of the lines of division planted to pick up comraderie in marching effects of illegal mining (Galamsey) on the health, resources and well-being of the Ghanaian people; demanding government accountability and to free political prisoners.
Nkrumah smiles as timidity wails in the face of the resilience demonstrated by this historic and remarkable protest. Today, Ghana Youth arises, and not only recommits to the struggle begun by our foremothers and fathers, but have reignited the long-lost hope of realizing Nkrumah’s Ghana.
A great day it is indeed, for a new dawn is upon us.
