Organized labour has justified its decision to suspend the planned nationwide strike against galamsey, citing its satisfaction with new measures deployed by the government in fighting the menace despite government’s failure to meet their demands.
The group had previously threatened to stage a nationwide strike today, October 10, in protest against the government’s failure to curb the environmental degradation caused by galamsey activities, but rescinded its decision to do so in a shocking twist of events.
Speaking on ABC in the morning, the Deputy Gen. Secretary of Trade Union Congress, Dr Kwabena Nyarko Otoo says the decision was taken following assurances from the government to tackle illegal mining.
Meanwhile, The Deputy Gen. Secretary of Trade Union Congress, Dr Kwabena Nyarko Otoo also disclosed that the impending 2024 general election was a key consideration in their choice to hold off on the industrial action.
