The Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi is prepared to host football matches once again, according to the National Sports Authority (NSA).
Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer, Patience Adams, announced that the stadium is now fully operational after undergoing renovations.
In an interview with Akoma FM, Miss Adams stated, “All work at the Baba Yara Stadium is completed and ready to host any football events, but we are awaiting clearance from our masters in Accra before the facility can be opened.”
The stadium had been closed after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) deemed it unfit for international matches due to the poor condition of the pitch.
This prompted the relocation of Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan to Accra. Additionally, Asante Kotoko SC, one of Ghana’s top football clubs, had to move their home games to Obuasi during the renovation period.
With the stadium now ready for action, the sports community in Kumasi is anticipating official approval from Accra. The venue is expected to host not only local league matches but also international fixtures, potentially restoring its status as a premier football destination in Ghana and across Africa.
