Suspected thieves have stormed the Sokoban Krofrom Palace in the Ashanti Region, making away with the revered traditional black stool and other valuable items.
The invasion occurred while the newly enstooled chief and other royal family members were at the Manhyia Palace swearing the oath of allegiance.
By the time they returned, the palace had been ransacked, with doors vandalized and the sacred stool missing. The black stool in Akan tradition is a symbol of authority, leadership, and spiritual significance, embodying the history and power of the royal family.
Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM’s Ghanakoma morning show, royal family member Kwadwo Antwi described the terrifying incident, stating that six heavily built men wielding machetes and guns stormed the palace.
“We were here when six macho men surrounded the palace, broke through the metal gate, and took the black stool along with other valuables,” he recounted.
He also revealed that elders who tried to resist were physically assaulted, while women mourned as the invaders looted the palace.

The incident has heightened tensions within the community, with residents fearing further attacks.
Police officers have since visited the palace and launched an investigation into the theft. Authorities have assured the royal family that justice will be served, urging calm among residents as they work to recover the stolen stool.
