The Minority Caucus in Parliament has made a donation of GHȼ200,000 to support the victims of the recent fire disaster at the Adum Blue Light Market in Kumasi. The donation, presented during a brief ceremony in the city, aims to provide immediate relief to the traders who lost both their goods and livelihoods in the devastating blaze.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin led the delegation and expressed his deep sympathy for the affected traders, offering words of solidarity and calling for swift government intervention.
“The government must show the same level of urgency and compassion as it has in other similar tragedies,” said Afenyo-Markin, urging the authorities to step in and provide additional support, just as they have done in past instances of disaster.
Afenyo-Markin specifically recommended that the government utilize funds from the Contingency Fund to assist the victims and help them recover from the disaster’s financial impact. He emphasized that immediate relief was critical for the traders to rebuild their businesses and regain their livelihoods.
In response to the donation, Mr. Joseph Bobie Ansah, Chairman of the market traders, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the affected traders.
“We are deeply grateful for this support. It will go a long way to ease the burden on our members who have lost everything,” said Mr. Ansah, visibly moved by the timely assistance.
The gesture has been widely praised as a sign of unity and compassion, with many commending the Minority Caucus for showing genuine concern for the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians during times of crisis.
The fire, which left countless traders devastated, has brought the community together in support of the victims, and the donation from the Minority Caucus serves as a beacon of hope for those affected.
The Minority’s timely intervention has sparked discussions on the need for greater efforts in disaster preparedness and response, as well as the importance of government involvement in alleviating the hardships faced by citizens in the aftermath of such devastating events.
