Former Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Moses Abor, has condemned the continued detention of former NAFCO CEO, Abdul-Wahab Hanan, describing it as unjust and politically motivated.
Speaking to the media on Monday at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) headquarters, Abor fumed, “If he has done something wrong, take him to court and stop this nonsense.”
He joined several NPP stalwarts who gathered at the premises to demand Hanan’s release.
The protest stems from EOCO’s refusal to release Hanan despite claims that he has met the bail conditions.
Hanan was arrested on June 25 along with his wife and a third individual in an ongoing investigation into alleged financial malfeasance during his tenure at the National Food Buffer Stock Company.
While his wife has been granted bail set at GH¢30 million, Hanan remains in custody, yet to satisfy the GH¢60 million bail terms.
Supporters of Hanan insist they will not leave the EOCO premises until he is released.
“We are not going anywhere until they release Hanan,” one protester stated. Meanwhile, reports that the Minority in Parliament would join the protest have not materialized, as no MPs had been seen at the scene at the time of reporting.
