The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana has suspended its nationwide strike action, offering the government a two-week period to resolve outstanding concerns over salaries and conditions of service.
The decision was reached after the association’s National Executive Committee (EXECO) met on March 17, 2026, to consider a formal appeal from the government requesting more time for negotiations.
In a statement issued the same day, the association explained that the temporary halt in industrial action is intended to pave the way for constructive engagement between both parties.
“EXECO on 17th March, 2026 reviewed the appeal by Government to call off the nationwide strike action ‘and allow Government fourteen (14) days to come to an amicable resolution of the issues with the Salary Structure and Conditions of Service of members of CLOGSAG’,” the statement said.
Following its deliberations, EXECO announced a suspension of the strike to create room for progress in the discussions.
“EXECO, therefore, has suspended the Nationwide Strike.”
The union has subsequently instructed its members across the country to resume duties from Tuesday, March 24, 2026, a move expected to restore normal operations in public offices that had been affected by the industrial action.
“All members of CLOGSAG are to report to work by Tuesday, 24th March, 2026,” the statement added.
The statement was signed by Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo.
CLOGSAG represents a broad segment of Ghana’s public sector workforce, particularly administrative personnel within ministries, departments, agencies and local government assemblies. Its strike actions often disrupt key public services, including administrative processes, documentation, and coordination of government programmes.
The latest development places significant responsibility on the government to present concrete proposals within the 14-day window. Failure to reach a mutually acceptable agreement could result in a resumption of the strike, with potential implications for public sector operations nationwide.
