Security analyst Richard Kumador has called for swift and decisive action against individuals who flout electoral laws, warning that the lack of punishment for political violence fosters a culture of impunity.
Citing the unresolved incidents of violence during the Techiman South elections, Kumador emphasized the need for robust law enforcement to prevent similar occurrences in Ghana’s upcoming elections.
“Until we start acting swiftly and dealing with people who break the law, we will continue to see individuals hiding under political umbrellas to evade accountability,” Kumador said on ABC Prime.
He stressed the importance of demonstrating credible law enforcement to maintain order during the electoral process.
Kumador also urged voters to cast their ballots early to mitigate potential challenges, such as voter displacement or issues with the register, allowing sufficient time for corrections.
Highlighting the need to build confidence in the electoral system, he encouraged social media platforms to promote positive narratives ahead of the elections.
While praising IGP George Akuffo Dampare’s comprehensive security plans as a “beautiful blueprint,” Kumador noted that the ultimate test of these measures would be their execution on election day.
