The Ada Traditional Council has suspended four of its members for two years for allegedly defying a decision by the Council to cancel the 2026 Asafotufiam Durbar.

The suspension, contained in a notice dated August 14, 2026, takes effect from August 14, 2026, and will run until August 13, 2028.

The four suspended members are Nene Djabaku Kubi V, Ada State Dzase; Asafoatsengua Dabra V, Asafoatsengua of Kabiawe Kponor; Nene Tetteh Aiyiku Abordonu IV, Wetsoyi of Kabiawe Tsu; and Nene Osakonor Okronipah IV, Wetsoyi of Kabiwe Yumu.

Nene Djabaku Kubi V – Ada State Dzase (Suspended)

According to a resolution signed by members of the Ada Traditional Council, the Council held an emergency meeting on August 5, 2026, at which the four members participated.

The meeting resolved to cancel the 2026 Asafotufiam Durbar, which had been scheduled for Saturday, August 8.

However, the Council said the four members subsequently organised, participated in or encouraged participation in the durbar despite their earlier involvement in the decision to cancel the event.

Nene Tetteh Ayiku Abordonu IV – Wetsoyi of Kabiawe Tsu (Suspended)

The Council described the action as a serious breach of its authority and a violation of established laws, traditions, customs and protocols of the Ada Traditional Area.

Asafoatsengua Dabra V – Asafoatsengua of Kabiawe Kponor (Suspended)

It cited four grounds for the disciplinary action, including breach of Council authority, violation of ceremonial traditions, negation of religious ceremonies and violation of ceremonial protocols.

The resolution stated that the decision of the Ada Traditional Council, described as the highest traditional authority in the Ada Traditional Area, could only be reversed by the Council itself.

Nene Osakonor Okronipah IV – Wetsoyi of Kabiawe Yumu (Suspended)

It further said proceeding with the durbar without the participation and consent of the Adibiawe Clan affected traditional rites associated with the opening of the durbar grounds.

The Council also said the actions of the four members nullified customary rites performed by the Worli (Priest), while proceeding without the participation of the Dangmebiawe Clan left the ceremonial cycle of the durbar incomplete.

The four members have consequently been suspended from all duties, privileges and participation in Council affairs for the two-year period.

The resolution was signed by the Paramount Chief of the Ada Traditional Area and President of the Ada Traditional Council, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, and witnessed by three other traditional leaders.
