The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that it took firefighters more than five hours to bring the Adum Market fire under control.
Speaking on ABC News GH, the Head of Public Relations for the GNFS, DO III Desmond Ackah, stated, “It took us over five hours and forty minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire has been contained.”
The devastating blaze, which broke out early Friday, March 21, destroyed three-story buildings containing multiple shops, causing massive losses for traders.
“My heart goes out to the affected traders who have lost their investment and capital,” Ackah said, expressing his sympathy for those impacted.
Despite the challenges, he praised firefighters for their efforts in preventing further destruction.
Ackah also announced that investigations would be conducted to determine the exact cause of the fire. He urged the public to call the Fire Service as soon as incidents occur, to improve response times and minimize damage.
