The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has modified its pre-tournament camp arrangements for the Black Stars leading up to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Rather than holding the camp in South Africa from December 31, 2023, the team will now be stationed in Kumasi, Ghana, commencing on Tuesday, January 2, 2023.
The decision to relocate the camp stemmed from a review meeting involving the Black Stars management and technical team. The technical team sought a more serene and secluded training environment, prompting the shift to Kumasi.
Due to this alteration, the international friendly match against Botswana, initially slated for Monday, January 8, 2023, in Johannesburg, has been called off. The GFA is actively seeking an alternative opponent for the team as part of their preparations for the tournament, set to kick off on January 13, 2024.
Training sessions in Kumasi will be conducted behind closed doors, with only one session open to the media. A post-match press conference is scheduled after the friendly match.
In the group stage of the tournament, starting on January 13, 2024, the Black Stars are scheduled to face Mozambique, Cape Verde, and Egypt.
