Ghana’s Black Stars suffered a painful 2-0 defeat to Sudan in their AFCON 2025 qualifier on Tuesday, leaving their hopes of qualification hanging by a thread.
Sudan, led by former Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah, struck twice in quick succession at the Al-Merreikh Stadium.
The breakthrough came in the 62nd minute when Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud Mohamed fired home, followed by a swift second from Mohamed Addelrahman just three minutes later.
The loss leaves Ghana third in Group F with only two points, a daunting five points behind second-placed Sudan.
With only two matches remaining, the Black Stars face an uphill battle to reach the tournament in Morocco next year.
Angola tops the group with nine points, putting further pressure on Ghana’s qualification hopes.
The two automatic qualification spots now seem distant for the Black Stars, whose chances have been severely dented by this latest setback.
