The president of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, is scheduled to travel to Senegal on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, for a working visit, his office has confirmed.
During the trip, Motsepe will hold meetings with Senegalese Head of State, HE Bassirou Diomaye Faye, as well as officials from the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football, including President Abdoulaye Fall. While CAF has not publicly outlined the full agenda, sources indicate that discussions are likely to revolve around the ongoing AFCON title controversy.
The dispute stems from CAF’s March 17 decision regarding the 2025 AFCON final between Senegal and Morocco. Initially, Senegal’s Teranga Lions defeated Morocco’s Atlas Lions 1-0 to claim the championship. However, CAF’s Appeal Jury later ruled in favor of Morocco, awarding them a 3-0 victory on procedural grounds.
According to CAF, the reversal came after it was determined that Morocco’s right to be heard had not been respected during the earlier Disciplinary Jury proceedings. Senegal has since taken the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sports, challenging the ruling.
Motsepe’s visit is seen as a key step in addressing the tensions and ensuring dialogue between CAF and the Senegalese authorities.
