AFCON2023: TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Côte d’Ivoire 2023 Awards

The 34th edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations concluded with a captivating final at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, where Cote d’Ivoire staged a remarkable comeback to secure their third TotalEnergies CAF AFCON title against Nigeria.

As the tournament came to a close, CAF recognized and honored the standout performers:

  • TotalEnergies Man of the Match (Final): Simon Adingra (Cote d’Ivoire) – Adingra’s pivotal contributions, including two assists in the final, earned him this prestigious accolade.
  • TotalEnergies Best Player: William Troost-Ekong (Nigeria) – Despite Nigeria’s runner-up finish, Troost-Ekong’s outstanding performances throughout the tournament earned him the title of Best Player.
  • PUMA Golden Boot: Emilio Nsue Lopez (Guinea-Bissau) – Lopez claimed the Golden Boot award for his impressive goal-scoring prowess, netting a total of five goals, making him the top scorer of the competition.
  • Ecobank Best Goalkeeper: Ronwen Williams (South Africa) – Williams’ exceptional goalkeeping skills, highlighted by crucial saves throughout the tournament, earned him the title of Best Goalkeeper.
  • Fair Play Air Cote d’Ivoire Team: South Africa – In addition to their third-place finish, South Africa was recognized for their fair play and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

Furthermore, the winner’s trophy was presented to Cote d’Ivoire’s captain, Max Gradel, by President Alassane Ouattara alongside CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, and FIFA President, Gianni Infantino.

The ceremony also featured the official handover of the CAF flag to the Royal Moroccan Federation, symbolizing the transfer of hosting responsibilities for the 2026 competition.
