Nii Tan Sackey, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s National Executive Committee, has defended the Attorney General’s decision to withdraw the case against Dr. Kwabena Duffuor and others.
Speaking on ABC in the Morning, Mr. Sackey said the move is consistent with prosecutorial discretion and the broader objective of justice administration.
He cautioned against sensationalising the decision, emphasizing that it should be viewed within the context of the significant recovery already made.
“This is not the first time a case of this nature is being discontinued,” Mr. Sackey stated.
He noted that over 60% of the alleged financial losses to the state have already been recovered, which he described as “significant progress.”
According to him, continuing with the prosecution under such circumstances would be counterproductive and an unnecessary drain on public resources.
Mr. Sackey further argued that the Attorney General’s focus is on achieving justice through practical means.
“This is not a new thing. AG is looking at how justice can prevail, how funds can be recovered, rather than arresting with no benefit to the country,” he said. He maintained that the decision reflects a pragmatic approach to governance, prioritising national interest over political optics.
