The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is closely watching developments within National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the party prepares for its internal elections.
Speaking on ABC In The Morning today, Hon. Akwasi Acquah said the NPP is aware of what he described as a possible “Johnson and Johnson” ticket emerging within the NDC’s internal political calculations, with NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia set as as the presidential candidate, paired with Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama as his running mate.
“We are watching the NDC closely. We are aware of a Johnson and Johnson ticket,” the Akim Oda MP said.
Touching on the recent directive by the NDC that party officials seeking to contest internal positions must resign from their current roles, Mr. Acquah alleged that the move is strategically targeted.
He claimed that the directive is linked to internal power dynamics within the party, particularly involving the General Secretary position. “Fiifi Kwetey knows that Sammy Gyamfi is eyeing the General Secretary position, hence the ‘resign to contest party position’ directive,” Mr. Acquah alleged.
Sammy Gyamfi currently serves as the NDC’s National Communications Officer and is considered one of the party’s most vocal and influential figures.
The comments by the Akim Oda MP come amid heightened political activity as both major parties position themselves ahead of upcoming national and internal elections.
