President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced a marginal 0.03% increase in the cocoa producer price, moving it from GH₵3,000 to GH₵3,100 per 64kg bag for the 2024/2025 crop season.
Speaking at the National Farmers’ Day awards in Accra on November 8, he revealed that the rise aligns with current market conditions and followed advice from the producer price review committee.
This adjustment seeks to bolster the income of cocoa farmers as they face economic challenges, with the president stressing the importance of ongoing reviews to sustain their livelihoods.
The event also celebrated the achievements of farmers across Ghana, with 70-year-old Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong from the Sekyere Central district in the Ashanti Region being crowned the National Best Farmer.
With a farming career spanning five decades, Nana Owusu leads North American Farms, employing 168 workers and cultivating crops such as cocoa and cashew.
His dedication earned him one million Ghana cedis as a prize, showcasing the government’s commitment to recognizing and supporting agricultural excellence.
In his acceptance speech, Nana Owusu called for enhanced efforts to secure food stability, underscoring the critical role of the agricultural sector in national development.
The Farmers Day celebration, observed nationwide, brought together President Akufo-Addo and key officials to honor the hard work and economic contributions of Ghana’s farmers.
