President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned the $1.2 billion Bridge Power Plant in Tema.
Speaking at the event on November 19, 2024, the President described the 515-megawatt combined-cycle facility as a transformative step toward energy security and economic growth.
Developed in partnership with Early Power Ltd. and Endeavour Energy, the plant is now one of Ghana’s largest and most advanced power facilities, stressing the country’s commitment to innovative energy solutions.
The commissioning of the plant fulfills a vision that began in April 2017 when the project broke ground.
President Akufo-Addo recalled the days of “dumsor,” frequent power outages that disrupted lives and businesses under a previous administration.
He emphasized the significance of the Bridge Power Plant in addressing energy deficits, promising that it would provide stable electricity to reduce the strain on the national grid.
“Reliable power is the backbone of development, and this facility is proof that Ghana is ready to overcome the challenges of the past and embrace a brighter future,” he remarked.
The Bridge Power Plant integrates cutting-edge technology to deliver efficient, environmentally sustainable electricity with lower carbon emissions. President Akufo-Addo highlighted its potential to drive industrial growth by supplying reliable power to factories, schools, hospitals, and households.
The facility also supports rural electrification efforts, bringing energy access to underserved communities.
“The power generated here will fuel an industrial revolution, creating jobs, attracting foreign investment, and laying the foundation for sustained economic growth,” he said.
The President commended the efforts of Endeavour Energy, its partners, and Ghanaian engineers who contributed to the project’s success.
