President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended his congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama on his decisive victory in the 2024 presidential election.
In a press release issued on December 9, Akufo-Addo pledged to ensure a smooth transfer of power to Mahama’s administration, reaffirming his commitment to Ghana’s democratic principles.
“I look forward to working with the President-elect and his team to realize this goal,” he stated.
To facilitate the transition, a team will be inaugurated on Sunday, December 11.
This transition team will oversee the handover process, ensuring that the incoming administration is adequately prepared to assume governance responsibilities.
Highlighting the significance of this collaboration, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in sustaining Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
“May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong,” he concluded.
The Electoral Commission officially declared Mahama the winner with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total valid votes, against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 4,657,304 votes (41.61%).
In his statement, Akufo-Addo commended the Electoral Commission, the Ghanaian people, and all stakeholders for a peaceful and credible election process.
He also invited Mahama to Jubilee House on December 11 to initiate the transition process, underscoring his dedication to fostering national unity and the principles of good governance.
