The Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has firmly denied media reports suggesting that he is seeking the intervention of President John Dramani Mahama to facilitate the safe passage of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
In a rejoinder dated December 16, 2025, the Office described the publication, which first appeared in the Herald newspaper and was subsequently picked up by other media outlets, as “utterly false” and a “total fabrication.”

The report had alleged that the former President was considering approaching President Mahama to seek assurances for Ofori-Atta’s return. However, the Office categorically rejected the claim, stating that Nana Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated such an action nor made, directly or indirectly, any request or representation to President Mahama or his agents on the matter.
“The publication is utterly false,” the statement said, stressing that no such consideration or approach has been made by the former President.
The Office further emphasized Nana Akufo-Addo’s long-standing commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, noting that his fidelity to these values “has never been in question.”
While acknowledging that the fate of Ken Ofori-Atta is of concern to the former President—particularly given their familial ties and Ofori-Atta’s role as Finance Minister throughout Akufo-Addo’s two terms—the statement clarified that this concern does not extend to any attempt to interfere with due process.
“That concern does not extend to wanting to interfere with the rule of law,” the rejoinder added.
