As his second and final term draws to a close, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ghana for their trust and support over the past eight years.
Reflecting on his tenure, President Akufo-Addo spoke of the nation’s progress, challenges, and triumphs, highlighting the collective efforts that have shaped his time in office.
“As I near the end of my time in office, I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude to you, the people of Ghana, for giving me the opportunity to serve as your president for two successive terms,” he stated.
Akufo-Addo’s path to the presidency was one of determination and persistence. After narrowly losing elections in 2008 and 2012, he persevered, winning the 2016 election on a platform centered on economic reform, anti-corruption, and national development.
His victory over then-incumbent John Dramani Mahama brought him into office with a mandate to transform the economy and improve the lives of Ghanaians. His re-election in 2020, he noted, represented a “strong endorsement” of his leadership and vision for Ghana.
In his farewell message, President Akufo-Addo expressed pride in Ghana’s progress under his leadership and credited the resilience and unity of the Ghanaian people.
He emphasized the strides made in agriculture, governance, and development, while acknowledging the challenges that marked his presidency.
“This journey has been both challenging and rewarding,” he said, “and I am immensely proud of all we have accomplished together in agriculture, in governance, and in the lives we have touched.” With his presidency nearing its end, Akufo-Addo affirmed his unwavering commitment to Ghana’s prosperity and continued growth.
