President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to deliver his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10:00 am, fulfilling his constitutional mandate under Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.
The address comes just days before the dissolution of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic on Monday, January 6, 2025, which will make way for the inauguration of the 9th Parliament. On the same evening, the newly elected Members of Parliament will convene to elect a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers, with oaths of office taken at midnight.
Parliament has announced stringent media guidelines to ensure smooth coverage of the event, requiring mandatory accreditation and visible tags for all personnel. Media houses intending to broadcast live must complete their setup by the evening of Thursday, January 2, 2025, while stringent security protocols will apply to all media personnel and equipment.
The SONA is expected to highlight the government’s achievements and provide a reflection on challenges as President Akufo-Addo concludes his tenure.
