The Ministry of Finance has confirmed that all 6,300 Ghana Education Service (GES) staff recruited in 2024 without financial clearance have been paid.
The Ministry said the affected employees were among workers inherited by the current administration when it assumed office in 2025, following their recruitment without the required financial approval.
According to the Ministry, measures were subsequently taken to regularise the recruitment and facilitate payment of salaries owed to the affected staff.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the Ministry said Cabinet approval was obtained and financial clearance was eventually granted to allow the payments to be made in four tranches.
“In 2025, the Government inherited 6,300 GES staff who had been recruited in 2024 without financial clearance,” the statement said.
The Ministry stressed that the process has since been completed, with all workers covered by the arrangement receiving their salaries.
“The Ministry of Finance can confirm that all 6,300 staff covered by this arrangement have been paid,” it stated.
The clarification comes amid concerns raised by the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Staff of the GES over alleged unpaid salaries and arrears.
The Finance Ministry also dismissed claims that financial clearance requests submitted by the GES remain pending.
“The Ministry further clarifies that there are no outstanding requests for financial clearance from the GES awaiting action by the Ministry of Finance,” the statement added.
The Ministry has, however, directed any GES staff who continue to face salary or arrears-related difficulties to seek assistance from the Ghana Education Service.
It said such cases may require attention to individual payroll or administrative issues and should therefore be addressed through the appropriate GES channels.
