The head of the Local Government Service, Engineer Nana Ato Arthur, has reported a violent intrusion at the Service’s Accra office, suspected to be the work of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters following the December 7 election.
Speaking to Asaase News, Dr. Arthur revealed that a group of approximately ten unidentified men arrived on motorbikes, demanding to see an inventory of the Service’s assets.
The men, who gathered at Efua Sutherland Park before walking to the office premises, left when they learned Dr. Arthur was away on official duty.
The attack, which targeted several municipalities in the Greater Accra and Central Regions, prompted Dr. Arthur to seek intervention from the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to ensure staff safety.
He emphasized the need for political leaders to dissuade their supporters from violence, stating, “We all need to understand that we had a democratic election, and a president has been democratically elected. We are not in a coup d’état era.”
