Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo has been recognised as the English Premier League Player of the Week for Matchday 26 after delivering a stellar performance in Manchester City’s commanding 3-0 victory over Fulham at the Etihad Stadium.
Semenyo was at the heart of City’s attacking display, breaking the deadlock with a composed close-range finish after exploiting a defensive error. He later turned provider, supplying a pinpoint pass that allowed Nico O’Reilly to double the hosts’ lead, before Erling Haaland completed the rout.
The Black Stars attacker has wasted no time making his mark since arriving at the reigning champions in January, quickly carving out an important role in Pep Guardiola’s attacking setup. His impressive run of form has seen him register five goals in seven appearances across all competitions for the Citizens.
The 26-year-old secured the weekly accolade with 39 per cent of the vote, beating strong competition from Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk, who polled 32 per cent. Lukas Nmemcha, José Sá, Malick Thiaw and Jaidon Anthony were also nominated for the award.
Semenyo becomes the third Manchester City player to claim the honour this season, following earlier winners Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku, highlighting City’s dominance in the weekly individual awards.
His rapid rise at the Etihad has elevated his profile both domestically and internationally, with Ghanaian supporters optimistic that his club form will translate into match-winning contributions for the Black Stars in future international fixtures.
