The Assembly Member for the Anwomaso, Bebre Electoral Area, Hon. Francis Tawiah has led a road-clearing and drainage exercise in the community as part of efforts to improve road safety and ease movement ahead of the burial of the late chief, Nana Osei Boah II.

The exercise, which was carried out today involved the use of a caterpillar to clear overgrown weeds and vegetation along sections of the Anwomaso road.

The exercise also focused on clearing and improving portions of the drainage system to help address the recurring flooding situation experienced along the road whenever it rains.

Residents and road users have, over time, expressed concerns about the condition of the road particularly during heavy rainfall. Some portions become flooded, making it difficult for motorists and pedestrians to cross safely.

Pedestrians have also complained that vehicles passing through the flooded sections sometimes splash water onto them, creating further inconvenience for people using the road.

According to Hon. Francis Tawiah, the flooding also presents safety concerns, including the risk of accidents and during severe rainfall, the possibility of people being swept away by floodwaters.

Another major concern is the growth of weeds along the roadside. The vegetation had gradually encroached on portions of the road, reducing the available space for road users and affecting visibility.

Some areas commonly used by passengers as bus stops had also become overgrown, creating secluded spots that could pose security concerns, particularly for people who use the road in the evening.

Hon. Tawiah said the exercise was therefore necessary to improve visibility, make the road safer and create a more conducive environment for residents and other road users.

The intervention comes at a time when the Anwomaso community is preparing to bid farewell to its late chief, Nana Osei Boah II, whose burial is scheduled for October 17.

The funeral is expected to bring residents, visitors and mourners into the community, making it important to improve the condition of the road and its surrounding areas ahead of the event.

Hon. Francis Tawiah explained that although the exercise is taking place ahead of the funeral, the intervention is not only about preparing for the ceremony.

He said residents use the road every day and that addressing the flooding, drainage and overgrown vegetation would contribute to the safety and convenience of the community beyond the funeral.

He also called for continued collaboration between the Assembly, community leaders, relevant committees and other stakeholders to address the challenges and find lasting solutions to the recurring flooding.

The road-clearing and drainage exercise is expected to provide some immediate relief to residents and road users while further attention is given to the broader drainage and flooding challenges affecting the Anwomaso, Bebre Electoral Area.
