Dr. Hassan Ayariga, the Founder and Flagbearer of the All Peoples Congress (APC), is set to reveal his running mate today as part of the party’s strategic preparations for the December 7th, 2024 general elections.
The announcement forms part of APC’s campaign as Ayariga seeks to position his party as a formidable alternative to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In an interview with ABC News Ghana, Dr. Ayariga outlined his vision for sweeping reforms within Ghana’s National Security sector.
He proposed that a first degree should be the minimum qualification for candidates, aiming to professionalize the sector.
“My policy for the security institution is 1st Degree, that’s the basic. So it allows me as President to allocate slots of National Security to 1st Degree holders and Police slots to 3rd-year students,” he said. This initiative, he explained, would ease students into their roles while reducing the financial strain on their families.
Dr. Ayariga also critiqued Ghana’s current electoral system, which he accused of being rigged and not reflecting the true will of the people.
He pointed to the disparity between registered voters and actual voter turnout in the last election, noting that out of nearly 17 million registered voters, only about 11 million participated.
“These numbers represent Ghanaians who believe the leadership of both the NPP and NDC has failed them,” he asserted. He further alleged that APC votes were not accurately counted in previous elections, deepening his concerns about electoral integrity.
Urging voters to consider the APC as a genuine alternative to the traditional parties, Dr. Ayariga called on those disillusioned by the NPP and NDC to support his vision for change.
“I present myself as the third force, but it is now left for Ghanaians to accept it,” he stated, emphasizing his commitment to leading a government that truly represents the people’s interests.
