Apple has entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of the iPhone Duo, a $1,999 device unveiled alongside the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

The new foldable iPhone is designed to combine the portability of a conventional smartphone with a larger display for multitasking, gaming and viewing content.

The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch internal display when opened and a 5.4-inch outer screen when folded. Apple described it as its thinnest iPhone when fully opened and has incorporated support for Apple Pencil input.

The device will be available from October 23 at a starting price of $1,999, marking Apple’s entry into a segment already dominated by competitors such as Samsung and Google.

Apple has also redesigned iOS for the foldable format, allowing users to take advantage of the larger screen.

Alongside the Duo, the company introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, priced from $1,199 and $1,299 respectively.

The two Pro models are powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip and feature a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. They also come with a smaller Dynamic Island, while Apple says the Pro Max delivers the biggest improvement in battery life in the history of the iPhone.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro models will begin on September 12, with the devices scheduled to go on sale on September 18.

Apple is also putting greater emphasis on artificial intelligence with Siri AI through iOS 27, while highlighting privacy and on-device processing.

The company’s latest product event also featured updates to its wearable and audio products.

The Apple Watch Series 12 starts at $399 and introduces a new Health Sensing System designed to provide more frequent heart-rate and heart-rate-variability measurements. It also includes a new readiness score intended to help users assess how prepared their bodies are for the day.

The Apple Watch Ultra 4, targeted at athletes and outdoor users, also receives the new health-sensing system and offers up to 45 hours of outdoor workout tracking. It starts at $799.

Apple further unveiled the AirPods 5, which add active noise cancellation to the open-ear design, alongside improved sound, Siri AI integration and Live Translation. The new AirPods start at $129 and will be available from September 18.

The event was also the first major product launch presentation led by John Ternus since he became Apple’s chief executive on September 1, succeeding Tim Cook.

With the iPhone Duo, Apple is now competing directly in the growing foldable smartphone segment while continuing to expand its ecosystem across smartphones, wearables, audio devices and artificial intelligence.
