The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly has outlined significant achievements and ongoing development projects across the health, education, security and youth empowerment sectors during its 2026 Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting, reaffirming its commitment to improving the living standards of residents.

Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, Ben Abdallah Alhassan

Addressing stakeholders, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ben Abdallah Alhassan, highlighted a series of strategic interventions aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery, improving educational infrastructure, enhancing security and creating economic opportunities for the youth.

Health Sector Receives Major Boost

The MCE announced that the municipality is expected to receive a 40-foot container of medical equipment in the coming days to improve healthcare delivery. The consignment includes 30 hospital beds, theatre tables and several other essential medical equipment that will be distributed to health facilities within the municipality.

He further disclosed that the Buobang Health Centre expansion project has reached completion and is expected to be commissioned in the coming weeks. New health facilities at New Zongo (Samaka) and Adinyase are also nearing completion and will soon be inaugurated to improve access to quality healthcare.

According to him, the municipality has benefited from seven District Assemblies Common Fund Responsive Factor Grant (RFG) projects with three completed while four others remain under construction at communities including Buobang, Edukrom and Sawaba.

Security Strengthened

To enhance security within the municipality, the Assembly has acquired brand-new pickup vehicles and motorbikes for the security agencies. Additional police personnel have also been posted to the municipality to reinforce policing, improve night visibility and strengthen emergency response by both the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service.

Massive Investment in Education

Touching on education, the MCE said the Assembly has distributed 10,000 school desks to all 57 public basic schools across the municipality to improve the teaching and learning environment.

He announced that Sakafia Islamic Senior High School has taken delivery of a newly constructed six-unit classroom block with a staff common room and store while Aboabo M/A Middle School ‘B’ has also benefited from the renovation of its six-unit classroom block.

Several major educational infrastructure projects are also progressing, including:

  • An 18-unit classroom block at Parkoso Senior High School.
  • A 2,000-seat assembly hall at Parkoso SHS.
  • A two-storey staff accommodation block at Parkoso SHS.
  • Ongoing infrastructure support at Ibadur Rahman Senior High School.

The MCE further revealed that Kumasi Academy recently completed a 409-bed girls’ dormitory block to improve accommodation for female students. Other schools within the municipality have also benefited from various educational projects.

Scholarships and Youth Empowerment

Mr. Alhassan stated that the Assembly continues to support brilliant but needy students through its scholarship scheme by paying tuition fees for beneficiaries pursuing tertiary education across Ghana.

He also disclosed that the Assembly partnered with the Mastercard Foundation and the University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (USTED) to train 400 young people in technology-related skills, with some Assembly Members among the beneficiaries.

Additionally, through the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) in collaboration with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) and the Mastercard Foundation, about 240 young people received training in fish farming, food processing and other vocational skills before being supported with start-up assistance.

The Assembly has equally distributed 193 industrial sewing machines, 32 hair dryers and other vocational equipment to beneficiaries to promote entrepreneurship and self-employment among the youth.

Disability Fund Increased

The MCE announced that government’s allocation to the District Assembly Common Fund for Persons with Disabilities has increased from 3 percent to 5 percent, following the fulfilment of President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promise.

He noted that the national allocation has consequently increased from GH¢285 million to GH¢428 million, enabling more persons with disabilities to benefit from the intervention.

Education Director Commends Stakeholders

The Municipal Director of Education, Dr. Samson Anawine, described education delivery in Asokore Mampong as encouraging, attributing the progress to strong collaboration among stakeholders.

He commended the Member of Parliament for Asokore Mampong, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the MCE, the Municipal Assembly and other development partners for their continuous support in providing classroom infrastructure, furniture and other educational resources.

Dr. Anawine explained that the directorate’s primary objective is to improve academic performance, particularly increasing the number of candidates obtaining single-digit aggregates in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) while raising standards at the senior high school level.

He stressed the need for greater investment in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), including laptops and digital learning tools to prepare learners for the evolving technological world.

According to him, the implementation of the Basic School STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programme and the ongoing curriculum reforms will position Asokore Mampong among Ghana’s leading municipalities in quality education.

Municipal Health Director Calls for Municipal Hospital

The Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr Mrs Juliana Akomeah Opoku, said the municipality continues to strengthen healthcare delivery through both public and private health facilities.

She noted that although communities such as Sawaba, Aboabo and parts of Asawase previously lacked government health centres, ongoing projects at New Zongo (Samaka), Adinyase and the expansion of the Buobang Health Centre will significantly improve access to healthcare.

Dr Mrs. Opoku also announced plans to upgrade the Sepe Dote Health Centre into a polyclinic, enabling residents to receive more specialised healthcare services within the municipality.

She added that the Municipal Health Directorate has intensified supportive supervision and regular monitoring of both public and private health facilities to ensure quality healthcare delivery.

However, she appealed for the establishment of a Municipal Hospital to meet the growing healthcare needs of the rapidly expanding municipality.

On public health, Dr Mrs. Opoku expressed concern over the municipality’s relatively high HIV prevalence and urged residents to practise responsible sexual behaviour by remaining faithful to one partner or abstaining. She also encouraged parents and young people to embrace vocational and entrepreneurial skills training to reduce teenage pregnancy and improve livelihoods.

Purpose of the Stakeholders’ Meeting

The Municipal Chief Executive explained that the annual stakeholders’ engagement serves as an accountability platform to brief residents, traditional authorities, assembly members, civil society organisations and development partners on projects implemented during the first half of the year while outlining development priorities and interventions for the remaining months of 2026.

He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to inclusive development through improved healthcare, quality education, enhanced security and sustainable youth empowerment initiatives
