Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has formally handed over the administration of the Ministry of Defence to Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, bringing his interim leadership of the ministry to an end.
The handing over took place on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Ministry of Defence and was completed with the signing of the relevant transition documents by Dr Ato Forson and Mr Adjei.
Dr Ato Forson was assigned by President John Dramani Mahama to oversee the Defence Ministry following the death of the substantive minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
He subsequently served as caretaker of the ministry for about a year while continuing to perform his substantive duties as Finance Minister.
With Mr Adjei now assuming responsibility, the Defence Ministry has a new substantive minister to lead its administration and provide policy direction.
Mr Adjei was reassigned from the Ministry of Works and Housing to the Defence Ministry as part of President Mahama’s government reshuffle announced on Friday, August 7, 2026.
As Defence Minister, he is expected to take full charge of the ministry’s operations and oversee the implementation of the government’s defence policies and programmes.
The formal handover allows Dr Ato Forson to return his full attention to the Finance Ministry, while Mr Adjei begins his tenure at the Defence Ministry.
