Parliament has approved the nominations of Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings to serve as Ministers for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Environment, Science and Technology, respectively.
The two nominees secured Parliament’s approval after appearing before the Appointments Committee on Thursday, August 27, for scrutiny of their experience, competence and suitability for the portfolios.
Mr Ayariga, a former Majority Leader and Chairman of Parliament’s Business Committee, was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama to lead the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
He is expected to bring his extensive parliamentary and political experience to a portfolio that oversees local governance, chieftaincy matters and religious affairs.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings, who has been nominated to head the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, will oversee government’s policy direction on environmental protection, scientific research and technological development.
Her responsibilities will also include supporting measures to address environmental challenges and advance the country’s science and technology agenda.
The Appointments Committee, after vetting the nominees, endorsed their nominations and referred them to the House for approval.
Their confirmation adds to President Mahama’s ongoing adjustments to his ministerial team as the government seeks to advance its priorities in local governance, environmental protection, science and technology.
Mr Ayariga and Dr Agyeman-Rawlings are now expected to take up their respective portfolios and lead efforts to implement the government’s agenda in their areas of responsibility.
