The former Vice President and flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed deep sorrow following the death of Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana.
Dr. Bawumia, who over the years has paid several courtesy visits and was last seen joining the Apostle’s birthday celebration in August 2025, described him as a pioneering innovator, philanthropist, and religious leader whose work left an indelible mark on Ghana.

In a tribute, Dr. Bawumia noted that Apostle Safo’s contributions transcended the pulpit, as he inspired industrial ambition through indigenous innovations and dedicated his life to uplifting the less privileged.
He praised him as a spiritual father whose words of encouragement and wisdom left a lasting impression whenever they met.
He added that the Apostle’s philanthropic and technological exploits had firmly positioned him as a national icon.
“On behalf of my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the Kristo Asafo Mission, and all who mourn this irreparable loss,” Dr. Bawumia wrote.
He urged Ghanaians to uphold Apostle Safo’s legacy by believing in local solutions, serving their communities, and putting Ghana first. Funeral arrangements, according to the Safo family, will be announced in due course.
Full Statement by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
“I have received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, a pioneering Ghanaian innovator; and the founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
Apostle Safo served Ghana beyond the capacity of a religious leader. He pioneered indigenous innovations and forcefully inspired an industrial spirit amongst Ghanaians. He was also dedicated to improving the lives of the less privileged in society as witnessed in his celebrated numerous philanthropic endeavours.
As a religious leader, his open arms received me. Anytime I called on him, I departed his presence with lasting words of encouragement and wisdom.
On behalf of my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the Kristo Asafo Mission, and all who mourn this irreparable loss.
May his legacy continue to endure and inspire future generations to believe in our domestic solutions, serve their communities, and put Ghana first.”
