The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has called on citizens to exercise patience as it finalizes the collation of results for the 2024 Presidential Election.
Speaking at a press conference on December 8, EC Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa assured the nation that the Commission has implemented robust measures to ensure accuracy and transparency in declaring the results.
She emphasized that while the EC is traditionally expected to announce results within 72 hours, it has been just 23 hours since the polls closed.
Mrs. Mensa reiterated that the process has so far been peaceful, transparent, and fair, assuring Ghanaians that “it is the will of the people that will be announced as the winner.”
Providing clarity on the collation process, Mrs. Mensa explained that results are collected from polling stations using Pink Sheets, which are signed and distributed to party agents.
The results then proceed through constituency and regional collation centers before arriving at the National Collation Centre. At each stage, party agents are actively involved, and copies of results are shared and posted publicly to ensure accountability.
The EC Chairperson reported that results from several regions, including Ahafo, Central, Western North, Oti, and Bono East, had already been received at the National Collation Centre.
Addressing delays in the collation process, Mrs. Mensa highlighted challenges caused by some party supporters besieging collation centers, hindering election officials’ work.
The Commission has since engaged political party leaders to address these issues.
She reassured the public that the EC remains committed to its pledge of transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness, urging Ghanaians to trust the process as the Commission works tirelessly to declare the final results within the stipulated timeframe.
