The Member of Parliament for Biakoye, Jean-Marie Formadi, has expressed concern over the refusal of healthcare professionals to accept postings to the Oti Region.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Friday, May 22, the MP disclosed that out of several doctors posted to the region, only two accepted their postings.
“It is sad, and I’m using this opportunity to let the whole Ghana know that in the Oti Region, about 25 doctors were posted there, but only two accepted postings to the region,” she stated.
Hon. Formadi said the situation is negatively affecting healthcare delivery in rural communities and appealed to healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses and midwives, to reconsider their stance on rural postings.
According to her, healthcare services are needed in every part of the country and not only in major cities.
She urged health professionals to remember the national nature of their duties before joining the healthcare system, stressing that hospitals and clinics exist across both urban and rural communities.
She pleaded with healthcare workers posted to deprived areas to accept their assignments in order to help improve access to quality healthcare for residents in underserved parts of the country.
