The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has cautioned the public against engaging with 20 digital lending platforms operating without regulatory approval, as part of efforts to clamp down on illegal lending activities in the country.

The central bank said the identified platforms have been offering digital credit services to consumers through mobile applications and other online channels without the necessary licence or authorisation.

In a public notice issued on Monday, August 3, 2026, the BoG directed the public to avoid dealing with the unlicensed operators and advised regulated financial institutions against supporting their activities.

The warning follows the implementation of the Directive for Digital Credit Service Providers in Ghana, which came into force in September 2025 to regulate digital lending operations and protect consumers.

According to the Bank, the continued activities of these unauthorised lenders expose customers to risks, particularly concerning data privacy, consumer protection and compliance with financial regulations.

The unlicensed digital loan applications identified by the BoG include Adamfo Loan, Agyapacredit, Amanfi Loan, Arco Cash, Aya Lend, Bucks Now, CediGo, CGrab, DumboCash, FCash, Gh Loans, Gh Loans Pro, Hasty Credit, Newgry Money Tree, Omanpesa, PoPoCedi, Ready Money, Sika Tap, Sikapa Loan and Zigwe Loan.

The Bank further warned banks, Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions (SDIs) and Payment Service Providers (PSPs) against facilitating transactions linked to the platforms.

“The general public is therefore strongly advised not to engage with unlicensed loan providers. Banks, Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions (SDIs), and Payment Service Providers (PSPs) are also cautioned against facilitating or processing transactions on behalf of unlicensed loan providers,” the statement said.

The BoG said it will continue collaborating with relevant state institutions to identify, investigate and take enforcement action against illegal digital lenders in order to safeguard consumers and maintain confidence in Ghana’s financial system.

The central bank also urged members of the public to report the operations of unlicensed loan providers to the Bank as part of measures to promote a safer and more transparent digital finance environment.
