The Black Stars have officially unveiled their squad numbers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with preparations intensifying ahead of the global tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
A major highlight of the announcement is the decision to hand the iconic number 10 jersey to Coventry City forward Brandon Thomas-Asante, underlining his growing importance to Ghana’s attacking plans heading into the tournament.
Coventry City forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has been in outstanding form during the 2025/26 season, registering 13 league goals and 4 assists in the Championship. His performances have played a key role in Coventry City’s successful campaign, which saw the club officially secure promotion to the Premier League after a 25-year absence. The achievement, sealed in April under manager Frank Lampard, marked Coventry’s long-awaited return to top-flight football.
Thomas-Asante’s emergence as a consistent goal threat for his club has now translated into a central role with the Black Stars, with the number 10 shirt traditionally reserved for creative leaders and game-changers.
In other squad allocations, goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi retains the number one jersey, reinforcing his status as Ghana’s main shot-stopper. Captain Jordan Ayew continues to lead the team in his familiar number nine shirt.
Antoine Semenyo has been assigned the number 11 jersey, while Joseph Anang takes number 12 and Benjamin Asare wears number 16, providing depth in the goalkeeping department.
In defence, Derrick Luckassen—called up following the injury to Alexander Djiku—will wear number 23. Midfield stalwart Thomas Partey keeps his trusted number five shirt, with Gideon Mensah, Kwasi Sibo, Caleb Yirenkyi and Baba Rahman assigned numbers 14, 8, 3 and 17 respectively.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz continues to fine-tune his squad as Ghana prepare for Group L action at the tournament. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17, before facing England in Boston on June 23, and concluding the group stage against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
Ghana head into the competition with the ambition of progressing beyond the group stage for the first time since the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, where they reached the quarter-finals.
With squad numbers now confirmed and preparations reaching their final stage, attention now turns fully to the pitch as the Black Stars aim to make another strong impact on football’s biggest stage.
