The Supreme Court has dismissed the injunction application filed by Old Tafo Member of Parliament Vincent Ekow Assafuah, seeking to halt President John Dramani Mahama’s suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
The court ruled against the motion, effectively allowing the suspension process to proceed.
The Supreme Court made this verdict following a 3-2 majority decision.
Assafuah, a leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), filed the case in an attempt to challenge what he described as an unconstitutional move by the Executive.
His application has been at the centre of heated public and political debate in recent weeks, with concerns raised about judicial independence and executive overreach.
More details will follow soon.
