Food and Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong has clarified that his recent comments at a campaign rally were not intended to incite violence among the youth.
Acheampong, who is also the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, had sparked concerns with his assertion that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would do whatever it takes to secure victory in the upcoming December 7 elections. Various stakeholders called for caution following his remarks.
In an interview, Acheampong explained that his comments were meant to emphasize the strategies and efforts the NPP would employ to win the upcoming December polls.
He referenced previous statements made by National Democratic Congress (NDC) members, including Omane Boamah, who had declared their intent to fight for political power and achieve a 57.3 percent victory.
Acheampong pointed out that the NPP had not reacted to such statements, understanding them as typical campaign rhetoric.
“Omane Boamah said they [the NDC] were going to fight for political power and get 57.3 percent. What did the NPP say? Nothing, because we know that some of these thoughts are just for nothing,” Acheampong said.
He continued, “When the NDC said that we should go and carve our stool and sit on it and that they would never give us the presidential seat, what did we do? We know winning elections in this country, it is won at the polling station.”
Acheampong stressed that both parties are committed to their respective strategies to win the election, and ultimately, the votes will be cast, counted, and a winner declared.
