The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced an indefinite strike, effective January 2, 2025, citing unresolved grievances with the government.
Isaiah Dorkuroong, a council member of CETAG, speaking on ABC Midday News, emphasized that the strike will persist until the employer addresses their demands.
“We’ve had about 44 meetings with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission since 2022, and they have all been disregarded,” Dorkuroong said, stressing the urgency of the situation. “Over 2,000 of us are united in this cause because we’re fighting for the students’ welfare.”
The strike, which follows earlier notices, comes after the government’s failure to implement an arbitration award issued by the National Labour Commission (NLC) in May 2023.
CETAG is also demanding the payment of overdue salaries and delayed appointment letters, which have yet to be issued for over 42 colleges.
Dorkuroong added, “The problem can only be solved when the employer does what is needful. Until then, we will continue this fight for our welfare and the welfare of the students.”
