Mr. Charles Opoku has, after the internal election, been elected as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Assin North by-election scheduled to take place on June 27, 2023.
Mr. Opoku won by a landslide margin after polling 397 votes to beat his closest rival, Freeman Amoah-Kyei, who received 136 votes.
Parliament through its Clerk has declared the Assin North Parliamentary seat vacant following the Supreme Court’s final verdict on the eligibility of James Gyakye Quayson in occupying the Assin North seat.
The Supreme Court, by a unanimous decision, declared as unconstitutional the election of James Gyakye Quayson as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin North constituency and consequently ordered Parliament to expunge the name of the embattled legislator from its records as the Member of Parliament for the Assin North constituency on May 17.
The leadership of the NPP says it is poised to win the parliamentary seat as the party will begin a campaign in earnest ahead of the by-election.
