The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has expressed optimism about the Electoral Commission’s (EC) introduction of an aide memoir to enhance election monitoring.
The new tool is expected to significantly reduce irregularities at collation centers, a common source of contention in Ghana’s electoral process. CODEO believes this initiative will promote transparency and bolster public trust in the election results.
Speaking to ABC News, Programs Manager at the Centre for Democratic Development-Ghana (CDD-Ghana), Mr. Paul Mensah Abrampah, described the measure as a positive step.
He highlighted how the aide memoir would help streamline communication and reduce misinformation.
“It will do away with misinformation and information distortion, which, of course, create an unfriendly environment and increase tension,” he noted.
Mr. Abrampah also praised the proactive measures taken by the Electoral Commission and the Election Security Taskforce to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
“The EC has been proactive in this. The Election Security Taskforce has been proactive in security management, and so far, so good,” he added.
CODEO and other stakeholders remain hopeful that these interventions will lead to a more credible and peaceful election.
