The defamation lawsuit between actress Martha Ankomah and Kumawood star Lilwin is set for trial after efforts to reach an out-of-court settlement collapsed.
During the October 15 court session, Justice Forson Agyapong Baah was informed by Ankomah’s lawyer, Nii Apatu Plange, that the defendant had refused to settle the case. “We made our proposals, but the defendant was not ready for settlement,” Plange noted.
Lilwin, absent from court and without legal representation, faces a GH¢5 million defamation suit.
The case, filed in February 2024, stems from a viral video in which Lilwin allegedly insulted Ankomah following her remarks about Kumawood actors.
Ankomah claims the defamatory comments damaged her reputation and her association with the GTP brand. She is seeking financial compensation, a public apology, and an injunction to prevent further defamatory statements.
The dispute emerged after Ankomah’s radio interview, where she expressed her disinterest in Kumawood’s witchcraft-themed storylines, sparking Lilwin’s public criticism.
Following the failed out of court settlement, the court has set the next hearing for November 5, 2024.
Justice Baah instructed that hearing notices be issued to the defendant, ensuring Lilwin is informed of the case’s progression.
