Céline Dion is set to return to the stage four years after being diagnosed with an incurable neurological condition that affected her voice and mobility.

The Canadian superstar, known for hits like My Heart Will Go On and Because You Loved Me, will perform a 10-night residency at the 40,000-capacity Paris La Défense Arena this September and October.

The announcement coincided with Dion’s 58th birthday. In an Instagram message to fans, she described the return as “the best gift of my life.” “I’m so ready to do this,” she said. “I’m feeling good, I’m strong, I’m feeling excited, obviously, [and] of course, a little nervous.”

Dion also addressed her ongoing health challenges, revealing she is managing her condition and has resumed singing and even dancing. “Over these last few years, every day that’s gone by, I felt your prayers and support, your kindness and love,” she said. “I am grateful to all of you. I can’t wait to see you again.”

The singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all time, has not performed her own show since March 8, 2020, in Newark, New Jersey. Her Courage Tour was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and she was later diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle spasms and can affect mobility. SPS affects roughly 8,000 people worldwide and has no known cure.

In interviews, Dion described the condition as debilitating, particularly in its impact on her singing voice. “Sometimes it causes difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to,” she told NBC News. “It’s like somebody is strangling you. It’s like somebody is pushing your larynx [or] pharynx.”

Despite the challenges, Dion remained determined. In 2024, she told French Vogue that she had committed to intense therapy, working five days a week on her vocal and physical training. Her dedication culminated in an emotional performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she sang Edith Piaf’s Hymne à l’Amour from the Eiffel Tower.

Fans have eagerly anticipated her return. Posters teasing the comeback appeared across Paris, and on Monday night, the Eiffel Tower was illuminated with the message, “Paris, je suis prête” (“Paris, I am ready”). A playlist of Dion classics, including I’m Alive, Encore Un Soir, and My Heart Will Go On, accompanied the display, creating a spectacular lead-up to the residency.

All 10 concert dates are spread across several weeks to ensure Dion’s health is protected. Tickets go on sale April 7, but fans can register their interest from March 31 via her official website.
