Member of Parliament for Wa West and a member of the Defence and Interior Committee, Peter Toobu, has lauded the Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, for establishing a dedicated Electoral Security Office.
Speaking on ABC’s morning show, Toobu emphasized the importance of this initiative, highlighting the IGP’s foresight in anticipating the potential challenges that may arise during the electoral period.
Toobu expressed his belief that the creation of this office represents a proactive effort to safeguard the electoral process and promote a safe environment for voters.
As Ghana prepares for the 2024 elections, this initiative serves as a crucial step towards instilling confidence among citizens, ensuring that they can participate in the democratic process without fear.
Toobu also cautioned the National security taskforce led by the IGP regarding the critical need for robust security arrangements ahead of the upcoming elections.
According to him, incidents of violence and unrest that were recorded in previous elections due to poor security arrangement protocols, particularly in hotspot areas, ought not to be repeated.
