The Dagbon Kingdom has been plunged into mourning following the death of its Overlord, Ya-Na Abukari II.
The announcement was formally made on Monday, July 13, by the Head of the Dagbon Kingmakers, Kuga Naa Adam Abdulai II, after the required customary rites were performed at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
In keeping with long-established Dagbon tradition, the news of the Ya-Na’s passing was preceded by the beating of the traditional talking drum and the observance of sacred customary rituals, signalling the death of the revered monarch to the people of the kingdom.
The late Ya-Na has since been buried in accordance with Dagbon customs.
His passing marks a significant moment in the history of the Dagbon Kingdom, where the Ya-Na occupies the highest traditional authority and plays a central role in the cultural and customary affairs of the area.
Traditional authorities are expected to announce the next stages of the customary succession process after the completion of the funeral rites, in line with the traditions of the Dagbon Kingdom.
