The Africa Institute of Governance and Security (AIGS) has praised former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare for his transformational leadership, stating that his tenure significantly restored public trust in the Ghana Police Service.
In a statement released on March 15, the institute highlighted Dr. Dampare’s emphasis on professionalism, internal accountability, and community engagement as key pillars of his leadership.
“Dr. Dampare’s tenure as IGP was defined by an exceptional commitment to disciplinary leadership that reshaped the Ghana Police Service.
His emphasis on professionalism, internal accountability, and community engagement not only restored public trust but also set a high standard for law enforcement in Ghana,” the statement, signed by Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, Security Strategist and Governance Specialist, noted.
The statement further commended Dr. Dampare’s introduction of key initiatives such as enhanced police visibility and rigorous anti-corruption measures, describing them as “a testament to his gallant leadership.”
The institute recognized him as one of the most impactful IGPs in Ghana’s history, with contributions that will have a lasting influence on the country’s security framework.
While celebrating his legacy, the institute also congratulated the newly sworn-in IGP, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno on his appointment, expressing confidence that his extensive experience and leadership will drive further transformation and modernization within the service.
“Your track record of operational excellence and dedication to public safety inspires confidence that you will build upon the solid foundation laid by Dr. Dampare while steering the Ghana Police Service toward even greater heights,” the statement added, wishing him success in his new role.
