The Accra Circuit Court has remanded 11 more Democracy Hub protesters into police custody following their appearance on Wednesday.
This latest group brings the total number of remanded demonstrators to 50.
The individuals, who have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful assembly, and other related offenses, pleaded not guilty to all charges.
They are scheduled to reappear before the court on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
The demonstrators face multiple charges, including causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace, and assault on a public officer.
The Police maintain that the charges stem from their involvement in a protest organized by the Democracy Hub, which they deemed illegal.
Lead Convenor of the Democracy Hub, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, and Funny Otoo, who were both expected to appear in court, were absent due to illness, according to police reports.
The remanding of these protesters has raised the profile of the Democracy Hub’s ongoing actions, which have captured significant public and media attention.
While the court process continues, the movement’s leadership remains under scrutiny, with many anticipating the outcome of the upcoming hearings.
