Following the untimely demise of the Member of Parliament for Kumawu consttuency, Hon. Philip Basoah, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has declared the Kumawu Parliamentary seat vacant.

The late Kumawu MP passed on at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after he was found unconscious in his room on Friday, March 24, and rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Speaker Bagbin revealed before Parliament adjourned for the weekend on Friday, March 31, that the Electoral Commission had been officially notified of the MP’s passing and was awaiting the conduct of a by-election within the following ninety days in accordance with Section 3 of the EC’s Amendment Act 1996 ACT 52.

Several lawmakers and dignitaries have expressed their sympathy, with others describing the late Basoah as a gentle and affable politician.
