Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North Constituency, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni has stated that desilting gutters is an essential preventive measure, especially in the wake of seasonal rains where non-biodegradable debris causes severe urban flooding.
According to her, leaving plastic waste in open heaps or throwing it back into water pathways creates flooding .
Speaking with the media during the National Sanitation Day exercise held at Alogboshie,Abufo, Achimota and kopevi in Accra today, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni said the security services helped in desilting choked gutters and removing accumulated plastic waste.
She said she will engage the assembly to look for a plastic manufacturing company to properly manage and separate plastics from organic silt to ensure these materials can be turned into economic resources.
She added that, the cleaning the environment will be continued until the entire Constituency become filthy and disaster free for the livelihood.
